Mid-Century Modern Framed Woodcut by Artist Robert C. Ellis
This modernist work of art is titled, "No Exit" and is an color woodcut, depicting two abstract expressionist figures done in 1952 by artist Robert C. Ellis. It comes in the original organic modern frame and was made on fibrous cream laid paper. This impression is pencil signed, titled and editioned "19/20" by the artist in the lower margin.
Robert C. (R.C.) Ellis (1923-1979) was an artist out of New Mexico born in Jackson, Texas. He began studying art through The University of New Mexico, Taos Summer Field School in 1942 and went on to study with Adja Yunkers at the New School in New York in 1949. Ellis moved to Albuquerque in 1950 and lived intermittently with the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico's Sierra Madre whose art he greatly admired.
CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition. There are darkened areas along the left margins which I believe to be some type of glue that was applied in the framing process. The glass and frame are in good condition with ring on top of frame for hanging.
